KeraExtend™ vs. Cream Cleanse™ – Which Do I Choose?

db-blog-dec-2016-choose

If you’ve been following our new Remy Care™ line, you may have noticed that we offer two distinct sets of extension-safe shampoos and conditioners. Dubbed the KeraExtend™ and Cream Cleanse™ sets, these products promise to cleanse and condition your hair and your hair extensions without causing damage or slippage in the process. But there are some notable differences between the two, including different recommended usages. So which shampoo and conditioner pair should you choose for your shower?

KeraExtend™
We recommend the KeraExtend™ Shampoo and Conditioner set for regular use. These products cleanse the hair without stripping it of nutrients, then condition and fortify strands with keratin and 11 botanical extracts. The result is shiny, healthy hair and hair extensions that are easy to maintain.

Cream Cleanse™
Cream Cleanse™ products should be used occasionally for clarifying purposes. This shampoo’s formula is more powerful because it’s designed to remove build-up before installation or move-ups, though still gentle enough to preserve scalp health. Cream Cleanse™ Conditioner reintroduces moisture to the hair via botanical extracts, and can be used to make clarified hair more manageable prior to installation (though it should only be used from mid-shaft to ends on this occasion).

In short, you should use KeraExtend™ for your regular showering regimen, and Cream Cleanse™ for monthly or bi-monthly clarifying, only. If your hair is particularly oily, you may benefit from more frequent Cream Cleanse™ use, though you should supplement the process with other moisturizing Remy Care™ products, like the KeraExtend™ Mask or Serum. But when in doubt, consult your stylist!

How to Become a Flat-Tip Pro

db-blog-dec-2016-pro

We’ve been talking a great deal about Flat-Tip lately, but you may have noticed that we don’t have any Flat-Tip designated educational programs. There’s a reason for that: since Flat-Tip is applied in the same way as I-Link extensions, the existing I-Link educational program works for learning Flat-Tip, too! So if you’re on a mission to become a Flat-Tip pro, here’s what you should do…

Pick up an I-Link Kit
Our Hair Extension Kits include all the tools you need to complete an installation, removal, and re-installation for any given method. They make great starter kits for practicing hair extension stylists, and continue to be useful even after you go pro. The I-Link kit comes stocked with a Loop Tool, Hair Extension Tool, Color Ring, Quick Pick, Hair Extension Brush, beads, and I-Link Practice Hair, so you can start practicing your beaded installation technique as soon as you receive it. Remember: beaded installation applies to both I-Link and Flat-Tip. If you want, you can even order a pack of Flat-Tip extensions to test out Flat-Tip spacing (which may differ slightly from I-Link’s).

Enroll in our I-Link course
Learn how to install both I-Link and Flat-Tip extensions by completing our I-Link Online Education course! You’ll learn everything from installation to removal and maintenance, and you’ll even get pro tips for masterful consultations. Once you’re done, you can apply for I-Link/Flat-Tip certification, which makes you a verified Donna Bella stylist eligible for Certified Rewards. There’s lots of good stuff to look forward to!

Pursue additional education
We have plenty of advanced education opportunities for Donna Bella stylists, including Trade Show classes and Pro Series events. Though we don’t currently offer Flat-Tip-specific classes, you can take these opportunities to ask questions about the method and develop your beaded technique. This is where our most engaged stylists come together to hone their craft, build community, and receive guidance from our master educators! Veteran attendees may even apply to participate in Trade Show installations as part of our Elite team. The potential for growth is endless, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Have you worked with Flat-Tip extensions before? Or do you plan on trying it out sometime soon? You can get in touch with other Flat-Tip enthusiasts today by joining the discussion on our Facebook page! We’ll see you there.

Winter Care for Thirsty Hair

Sunday, December 11th, 2016

db-blog-dec-2016-thirsty-HAIR

It’s finally December! That means our holiday decorations are coming out, as well as our winter hair care essentials. This year, we’ve revamped our regimen to include some of our lovely, hydrating, sulfate-free Remy Care™ products—and we have to say, our hair has never looked better, despite the weather! Here’s what we’re using, and how:

KeraExtend™ Mask
Masks are the holy grail of winter hair care, as they provide much needed moisture to dried-out locks. But our KeraExtend™ Mask goes a step further. In addition to its hydrating properties, the KeraExtend™ Mask restores elasticity to the hair with plenty of infused keratin proteins, so your hair will be both smooth and bouncy!

To use: After rinsing Donna Bella KeraExtend™ Shampoo from hair, squeeze all excess moisture using towel, then comb liberal amount of KeraExtend™ Mask through hair evenly, focusing on mid-shaft to ends. Gather hair in shower cap or hair claw and leave in for up to 5 minutes. Next, rinse hair thoroughly and style as usual, applying KeraExtend™ Serum if desired.

KeraExtend™ Serum
Like the KeraExtend™ Mask, our KeraExtend™ Serum is formulated with keratin proteins. In the serum, however, these proteins combine with the other ingredients to soften and add shine to the hair. The effect is almost instantaneous, as the serum coats the strand and seals the cuticle for a beautiful, glossy look in seconds!

To use: Apply KeraExtend™ Serum onto slightly damp hair with fingers. Do not apply product onto hair extension bonds or wefts. Spread the Serum onto the bottom half of your hair extensions and work your way downwards, concentrating on tips. Style as usual. Note: can be applied to dry hair in smaller amounts.

Argan Oil
Correct that straw-like, brittle texture that comes along with winter using a pump of Donna Bella’s Argan Oil. This antioxidant-rich oil is a quick-fix for parched hair, adding nutrients and a silky sheen that’ll keep extensions looking dewy throughout the holidays.

To use: Beginning with a small pump, apply evenly to bottom half of extensions, adding more to ends if desired. Do not apply oil to hair extension wefts or bonds. Apply only from mid-length to ends.

As with all of our Remy Care™ products, these moisture-packed favorites are sulfate-free, paraben-free, and color-safe, so you can use them on your own hair and hair extensions without issue. Want to get your hands on some of these products? Let us know what you think of the results by submitting a review to our review page. Or wrap them up as a present; Remy Care™ products make great gifts, too!

Who is Flat-Tip Best For?

db-blog-dec-2016-best-for

Sometimes choosing an extension method can be easy—you’re already familiar with the methods, you’ve seen the products, and you know what you want in terms of look and feel. But sometimes it’s not so straightforward. When it comes to new clients—or new hair extension methods, like Flat-Tip—experience and expertise may be lacking, leaving you a bit unsure as to which to choose. That’s where we come in. We’ve shared tons of materials, insights, and tips about each of our extension methods on our Online Education site, YouTube channel, and this blog, because we want every client to be matched with the method that best suits their needs. Today, we’re going to flesh out these resources with some additional information about Flat-Tip, answering once and for all the question, “who is Flat-Tip best for?”

As we’ve mentioned in past blogs and videos, Flat-Tip is a hybrid method that combines the best aspects of our Tape-In and I-Link methods into a single extension. It features the strand-by-strand, beaded installation of I-Link (and amazing 360 degree movement), and the flat-shaped, weft-style comfort and coverage of Tape-In. As such, clients who love I-Link or Tape-In will likely love Flat-Tip, too—and clients who are stuck between I-Link and Tape-In will find comfort in Flat-Tip’s all-encompassing appeal.

Kera-Link clients, who tend to favor the sturdy and stealthy hold of fusion bonds, are the only ones who may not drool over Flat-Tip’s promise—at least initially. However, these clients may benefit from periodic transitions between Kera-Link and Flat-Tip, as Flat-Tip’s non-invasive installation will allow their heat-treated hair to rest.

In general, we recommend Flat-Tip extensions for the following kinds of clients:
– Newer, speculative hair extension clients who have already tried out the Ready-to-Wear line
– Cautious clients who appreciate a forgiving extension method
– Mindful clients who are vigilant about their hair health
– Clients who wish to avoid glues, tape, and heat
– Casual clients who prioritize comfort above all else
– Clients who want a flexible, versatile extension method
– I-Link or Tape-In clients who are looking for a change
– Indecisive clients

Based on that list, Flat-Tip is great for just about anyone! Always remember to hold a thorough consultation session with your client before scheduling the installation, outlining the benefits of each method and seeking their input. When possible, show your client the extensions themselves, or direct them to this blog and our other resources! We’re always here to help.
