Happy Halloween! (Inspiration Inside)

Monday, October 30th, 2017

Happy Halloween! We’re wishing you a day full of sweets, fun, and fabulous outfits! If you’re anything like us though, you may feel like this holiday has kind of snuck up on you–and that’s okay! Girl’s gotta work, but not necessarily on Halloween costumes. Below, we’ve compiled some easy, last-minute costume ideas that will feature your beautiful Donna Bella locks. We’ll have you party-ready in no time!

For raven hair…

Morticia Addams
Long black hair? Check. Long black dress? Check. Killer makeup? Check. That’s basically all there is to it.

Jackie (from That 70s Show)
Take a cue from Jackie–the fashionable diva/darling played by a young Mila Kunis–and don all of your patterned retro-looking apparel for a distinctly 70s vibe. Finish off with the signature black curls and a whole lot of sass.

For blonde hair…

Barbie
Put on all your pink things to achieve the well-known Barbie look, and don’t forget Instagram-worthy makeup and the perfect blowout.

Luna Lovegood
This one is particularly fun if–like Luna–you have a lot of quirky clothes and a head of gorgeous, long blonde hair.

For red hair…

Ginny Weasley
To achieve this next Harry Potter-related look, don your signature red mane and your day-to-day clothes (or your old school uniform)–plus a wand. This is easy to refashion into a Lily Potter costume, too.

Ariel
Channeling this charming Disney princess is as simple as wearing a bikini top and a bedazzled pencil skirt while letting your red hair flow free. For extra ease, pick her just-out-of-the water look: wet hair and a large white cloth draped over her body.

For brown hair…

Lara Croft
Throw your brown hair into a piece-y braid, slip into your grungiest tank top and your shortest shorts, then finish it off with some black tape, toy guns, and a pair of boots.

Blair (from Gossip Girl)
If classy style is more your thing, take a page from Blair Waldorf’s lookbook and style yourself in layers of cute designer or vintage-inspired pieces. Then style your hair with a complementary accessory–like a headband or barrette hat.

For funky hair…

Katy Perry
Katy Perry changes her hair color constantly, so no matter what your current color, you can achieve her look by adding some bright statement clothes and plenty of attention-grabbing accessories.

Sadness, Joy, or Disgust (from Inside Out)
If your hair is blue or green and you’re willing to invest a little bit of time on makeup, make Sadness, Joy, or Disgust your Halloween persona. For Sadness, throw on an oversized sweater and some oversized glasses. For joy, opt for a simple yellow dress. And for Disgust, find a green a-line dress and a purple scarf. If desired, you can attempt to make your long hair appear shorter by styling it in a faux-bob–but we find that it’s not 100% necessary, since people will be able to identify your character mainly from your skin color and/or exaggerated expressions.

For groups…

Charlie’s Angels
All you need for this costume is a couple of friends and a good dose of attitude.

Spice Girls
Recreate the pop-tastic style of the Spice Girls with all your forgotten 90s staples–as well as bodycon dresses, slips, gym clothes, and anything metallic. With the right girlfriends and the right hairdos, you’ll be unmistakable.

Don’t forget to snap and share a picture of yourself wearing your Donna Bella hair extensions and costume! We love to see the looks you create, including all the ways that you style your hair!

How to Make the Most of Your DB Color Ring

Sunday, October 22nd, 2017

Here at Donna Bella, we believe that the DB Color Ring is the #1 most important tool an extensions stylist can have in their toolkit. This is because the Color Ring helps you sell your hair extension services, and it ensures that you select the proper color for your client–two steps that make the whole installation possible. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again–the consultation is the most critical part of the entire hair extension process, and it can either set you up for satisfaction or start the process on the wrong foot entirely. The DB Color Ring is the consultation tool par excellence, and it can help you do a lot more than just ace your consultations! So if you don’t have one–get one!* And if you do, take a look at all the ways our Color Ring can elevate your business and your customer’s salon experience.

*From October 20 to October 25 (2017), purchase the Donna Bella Color Ring for $20 (instead of $55). Shop now to claim a total of $35 off standard price (no promo code necessary)!

1. Promote Your Practice.

Even before a hair extensions consultation, a Color Ring sitting casually on display on your salon counter can alert your clients to the fact that you offer extension services in the first place. Clients who are unfamiliar with extensions may notice the assortment of silky, beautifully colored strands and feel inspired to ask for additional information, and clients who are familiar with extensions will discern the exceptional quality or recognize the brand. So let your tools promote your business for you!

2. Save Money.

With a Color Ring, you don’t need to have packages of hair extensions available in advance. Introduce your clients to a large variety of extension shades with a tool that you can carry in one hand. You won’t need to splurge on extension pieces that aren’t guaranteed to be used, keeping your inventory manageable and your expenses low, and you’ll see more return on your investment as clients are drawn in by the lure of extensions.

3. Sell Them on the Product.

The Color Ring doesn’t only save you money–it also spares your client from investing blindly in a product that they haven’t seen or handled in advance. You’ll get more customer trust and ultimate buy-in when you can show them upfront what it is that you’re offering. The Donna Bella Color Ring is composed of 54 strands of 100% Human Remy hair–the same hair used in our full extensions–colored exactly to our 54 (and counting!) available shades. This means that the strands look and feel just like the final product.

4. Get on the Same Page.

Sometimes it’s difficult to conduct a color conversation because perceptions of colors differ from person to person. When your client shows up to their color appointment without examples or references, have your Color Ring available as a decoding conversation tool. It will enable you and your client to communicate the colors you’re imagining, and it will allow you to compare the subtle differences in tone and shade present within any single color category.

5. Realize Your Vision.

Whether you’re performing an extension job or not, the Color Ring can be used to visualize color transformations. Have a client who wants to become a brunette but doesn’t know which shade would suit her? Whip out the Color Ring and compare the swatches to her skin tone to achieve the perfect complement, then use the swatch as a guide when testing your color formulation. Who knows? Maybe an unexpected color will catch her eye. Make room in your salon for both inspiration and serendipity, and feel confident in your selections as you do!

6. Predict Color Results.

We always recommend using a test strand when coloring your Hair Extensions with semi or demi permanent dyes. Extra color swatches can be purchased just for this purpose, and for only $2 a piece! You could even prepare a book of pre-colored strands to demonstrate how different extension shades take to different color formulations, for you and your client’s reference.

How do you use your Color Ring to maximum effect? Let us know in the comments below! And if you haven’t gotten a Color Ring yet, get shopping now to take advantage of the current deal!

How to Use Temporary Colors on Hair Extensions

Sunday, October 15th, 2017

Sometimes you’re itching for a new look, but feel worried about being stuck with something you don’t love for weeks. If you are looking to commit to a bold color, check out the Color Takeover Portal for some great looks you can achieve with our #60 Hair Extensions. For a strictly temporary look, you can use #60, or extensions going as dark as a #8 Light Chestnut Brown. Darker colors may take to these temporary colors, but they won’t look as bold. No matter what you’re looking for, we’re confident we can help you find it. Here are a few ideas:

Joico InstaTint
We love Joico! We use their Color Intensity line for all of our Color Takeover looks. If you are looking for some instant color that doesn’t last too long, their InstaTint is the perfect choice. It couldn’t be easier to apply, you simply spray it onto the hair you want to color. This style of application is great if you are going for an ombre or balayage look. You can also add pops of color to a braid or ponytail. If you want more saturated color, just spray on another layer. It works best on lighter hair but can add great color to darker shades as well. This temporary color lasts up to three days on your natural hair, or until you wash it out. Your extensions will probably fade more slowly. InstaTint comes in five great colors; Fiery Coral, Mermaid Blue, Orchid, Pink, and Sapphire Blue.

Color Washes
Shampoos and conditioners with color in them are especially great for people maintaining a head of colorful hair, but you can use them to get color without any dye at all. Just add it after you shampoo your hair, right in the shower! There are tons of colors to choose from and the results vary from highly saturated to subtle – depending on your hair color and the dye you choose. We recommend using Overtone or Viral—you can get these brands online or at a local store. Your hair needs to be pre-lightened to get a bold color when you use a color wash, but can be used on darker colors for some great results. The color will last the same amount of time that a semi-permanent dye lasts unless you continue applying the wash.

Hair Chalk
Hair chalk only lasts as long as you want it to, and will come out in a single wash. It’s perfect when you only need color for a short amount of time. Showing school spirit? Fancy dress-up party? Hair chalk is low-commitment and can even be used for a “trial run” before a total color commitment. Make sure the extensions are clean and brushed out, and only rub the color in one direction on the extension weft to prevent tangling and matting. Some people find that extensions are more absorbent of chalk color if they’ve been properly washed and rinsed beforehand. So, if you are looking for a more vibrant look, try giving your hair a wash first!

Clip-Ins
Add a pop of color in a snap, literally. If these other options still sound like too much commitment you can always check out the Clip-Ins we sell on our site. We offer 100% Remy human hair or synthetic clips in natural and funky colors, so you can add bold color or give highlights a try without having to alter your own hair at all.

We always encourage you to be bold and beautiful, because that’s what Donna Bella is all about. Maybe a new color will be right for you. Follow us on our other social media sites for more hair color #inspo.

The 1-Minute Makeover

Sunday, October 1st, 2017

Part of the beauty of custom hair extension color jobs is that most of the work happens when the client isn’t even around. Clients—that means you can have your consultation, decide upon your color, and order your hair, then leave the extension coloring process up to your stylist. Once you return for your installation, the hair will be prepped and ready for you, so all you have to do is sit for awhile before walking off to enjoy your results! In some cases, the process can be even quicker; with non-invasive or temporary hair extension solutions, you can even see a difference within 1 minute of entering the salon. Care to know how? Read on to view your 1-minute makeover options…

Highlights
It only takes a couple of well-placed highlights to brighten up your entire image. With a few crimps and a handful of extensions, you could easily find yourself looking younger, slimmer, and all-around brand new.

A splash of color
Whether you’re supporting a cause or just having a bit of rebellious fun, introducing a band of pink or a stripe of blue to your hair is as simple as adding a single Tape-In or Clip-In. Even with more, you’re looking at a procedure that lasts no longer than a minute, so you can spend your time feeling awesome.

Bangs
Sono by Donna Bella Bangs are installed with 3 simple clips, meaning installation is a breeze every time. Choose from our Side Swept or Straight Across options for a compatible style that’s sure to reform your whole look, then have your stylist color them to your perfect shade.

Solos
Another Sono by Donna Bella option, our Solo is a full head of hair attached to a single microfilm wire which you can pull on or take off in moments, let alone a whole minute. Once it’s on, simply pull the top layer of your natural hair over the wire to disguise, and you’ll be ready to go anywhere looking like a million bucks.

Stylists—are you up to the task? Visit the Color Takeover Portal to learn all about the Donna Bella-approved way to color hair extensions, and to stock up on color formulas, tutorials, and articles that’ll guide you through the process.
